Petrol Prices in Nigeria Today: What the ₦960–₦1,100 Bands Actually Mean for Your Wallet

Today's verified data shows petrol selling between ₦960 and ₦1,100 per litre across Nigeria, and diesel between ₦1,050 and ₦1,500. Knowing where your state sits - and why - saves real money.

Fuel in Nigeria no longer has one national price. Since subsidy removal, what you pay depends on your state, your station, and how far you are from the southern depots. Here is today's data in plain language - and how to use it.

Today's verified prices (all 36 states + FCT)

Petrol₦980-₦1,10017 states - Kano, Sokoto, Borno, FCT Abuja, most of the North

What this means for you

  • Your state has a range, not one price. Stations in Lagos can charge anywhere from ₦960 to ₦1,100 - a ₦140 gap per litre, worth about ₦7,000 on a 50-litre tank. Shopping around inside your state matters more than state borders.
  • North vs South is real but small. Northern bands start ₦20 higher (fuel travels further from the depots) - about ₦1,000 extra on a full tank.
  • Diesel is the heavy cost. At ₦1,050-₦1,500 per litre, a business burning 20 litres a day in a generator spends ₦21,000-₦30,000 daily on fuel alone.

Five ways to spend less on fuel

  1. Check prices before you queue. Inside the ₦960-₦1,100 band, the cheapest stations save you roughly ₦7,000 a tank. Stations near depots and highways usually sit at the low end.
  2. Fill up midweek, early in the day. Prices often creep up before the weekend.
  3. Fix the easy waste. Correct tyre pressure saves about 3%, a removed roof rack about 5%, gentle acceleration up to 15% - together like getting ₦150-₦200 off every litre.
  4. Generator owners: 20 litres of diesel a day at ₦1,275 is about ₦25,500 daily. Compare that against a small solar setup - payback is often under two years.
  5. Check weekly, not daily. Bands only move when depot prices move - our tracker tells you when a real change happened.

How NigerianINTEL solves this

  • Real bands, not made-up numbers. Our map shows the actual published range for your state - never a rounded "₦1.0k" or an invented price.
  • Honest colours. When the published bands overlap so closely they mean the same thing, the map says so instead of painting a fake red-vs-green split.
  • Daily refresh. Prices come straight from the published source tables every morning.
  • All three fuels together. Petrol, diesel and kerosene side by side, with 30-day history so you can see if today's price is a spike or a trend.
  • Estimated states are marked. Where no band is published, we say "estimated" instead of letting a guess blend in as fact.
